What is Artificial Intelligence?
Only five years later, in 2025, artificial intelligence (AI) will not be the subject of a science-fiction anymore; it shall become a part of our daily routine. Alan Turing is not yet a part of my AI course, but his so-called, Turing Test has already appeared. It is more or less a message to our professor telling a story that goes, Okay, what can we see how smart a machine can be.
Stick a keyboard on a machine, and give it a good-enough chat and the million-dollar question is whether we would be deceived into believing we are chatting with a human being. That is what Turing set a long time ago in 1950 and that is what we are still striving to cross.

1980s:Expert systems enjoy the limelight in the AI world as they more or less follow in the footsteps of the type of decisions the true professionals make.
The systems are based on a very well-planned set of rules and each rule is aimed at attracting the type of knowledge that a specific expert in the field would possess. The point is that everything is to be carried out automatically, similarly to how some kind of reasoning would be done in the work of an experienced practitioner – diagnosing disease or a lawyer finding a legal line.
Imagine an expert system as a big net of if-then statements where the if components are used to describe what is happening in the given situation and the then part tells how the system is to act next. The system begins with a list of symptoms and then consults a rulebook to find out what rules fit those symptoms and the action is selected depending on which rule fires.
Expert systems have an underlying theory: production rules, or statements in the form of IF a patient experiences Germ A AND has rash B, THEN suspect Virus C. Such rules kind of develop as time goes by and they get refined with the coming up of new evidence. Consequently, the rule set does not turn into baked into stone.
